This is an acrylic painting of my father from a picture taken in the 1970’s. I wanted to emulate a style that represented the mood through colors and composition. I used the dry brush technique to add a little flair. My father, was also an artist and won the Scholastic award for his paintings. His style was more abstract, so I wanted to convey this along with the time period in which the original photo was taken.
As a musical artist for over 20 years under the name Jamie LaPearle, I explored different musical genres without limitations while manipulating different rhythms and tones to convey my intention and emotion. The visual arts parallel in the way that I feel no marriage to any particular paint mediums such as watercolors, oils or acrylics, to express an idea. I find the flow and ease of the oil enable me to emanate warm, soft, intimate, and inviting pictures. Painting the planes of the human face with oil is uninhibited and creates a lively, yet muted expression.
